5K video – Interesting examples of wooden plant log decor 🥰👍.
You can create planters from wooden logs, and it can be a charming and rustic addition to your garden or outdoor space. Here’s how you can do it:
Materials and Tools:
Wooden logs: Choose logs that are at least 6 inches in diameter and are untreated, so they won’t release harmful chemicals into the soil.
Saw
Drill with a large spade bit or a hole saw
Sandpaper
Exterior wood screws or nails
Waterproof sealant or paint (optional)
Landscape fabric
Potting soil
Plants or seeds
Steps:
Select your log: Choose a suitable wooden log. Cedar or redwood logs are naturally rot-resistant, making them great choices for outdoor planters.
Cut the log: Using a saw, cut the log to your desired length. The length will depend on the size of the planter you want. A typical planter is around 12-24 inches long.
Hollow out the log: Use a drill with a large spade bit or a hole saw to hollow out the center of the log. Make sure to create a cavity deep enough to accommodate the root system of the plants you intend to grow. The depth should be at least 8-12 inches.
Smooth the interior: Use sandpaper to smooth the interior of the log, removing any rough edges or splinters that might harm the plant roots.
Drill drainage holes: To prevent water from accumulating and causing root rot, drill a few drainage holes in the bottom of the log planter.
Seal the log (optional): You can apply a waterproof sealant or paint to the exterior of the log to protect it from the elements and prolong its lifespan. Make sure to use a non-toxic, outdoor-friendly sealant.
Line the planter: To prevent soil from escaping through the drainage holes, line the interior of the log planter with landscape fabric. Cut the fabric to size and secure it with staples or glue.
Fill with soil: Add a high-quality potting soil into the planter. Leave enough space at the top to accommodate your plants.
Plant your greenery: Add your chosen plants, flowers, or herbs to the planter. Make sure they are suited to the log planter’s size and the amount of sunlight the location receives.
Water and maintain: Water your plants as needed and care for them according to their specific requirements.
Wooden log planters can be a unique and attractive addition to your garden, but keep in mind that they will naturally decay over time due to exposure to the elements. You may need to replace or refurbish them periodically to maintain their appearance and functionality.
